Advisory Committee on Readership in Georgia


The purpose of the committee is to consult Book Platform project in Georgia on the content of the capacity-building and policy activities related to the topic of reading and reading promotion. The committee is expected to adjust the planned project activities to local needs, advise on choice of experts and researchers as well as to assist in ensuring visibility of its results in the country.

Members

    IRINA SAMSONIA

 
Irina Samsonia is a philologist, specialist of Georgian Language and Literature. Since completing her studies at the Department of Classical Languages of Tbilisi State University, her career had been closely related with the field of school education. During years she has worked as a school teacher, teaching Georgian language and literature, as well as Latin. Since 2008 she continued her work in the system of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, were currently is Head of State Languages group at the National Curriculum Department. Her activities mainly include: working on the development of the National Curriculum and content standard of Georgian Language and Literature, as well as providing teachers with relevant accompanying materials and methodological literature. She has participated in planning and analyzing outcomes of National Assessments in literacy conducted at different times in Georgia. In addition, within the framework of different projects, she has prepared several publications in the field of developing reading skills, and literacy in general.

    KETEVAN NINIDZE

 
Ketevan Ninidze (born in 1983) – Chairman of the Literacy Development Centre, scientific researcher at Ivane Javakhishvili State University Shota Rustaveli Institute of Georgian Literature. In 2004 she graduated from Philological Faculty at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University with a Bachelor's degree and in 2006 with a Master's degree. Nowadays Ketevan is a PhD student at the Science and Arts Faculty at Ilia State University (Comparative Literary Studies Faculty). The fields of her scientific interests are development of literacy, sociology of literature, literary practices. At different times she has been involved in scientific and educational activities at secondary and high schools and scientific-research centers, as well as in different structural units of the Ministry of Education and Science (Deer's Leap, Teachers' House – as an expert and a member of the Jury). Ketevan is a GIZ (German Society for International Cooperation) certified specialist in distant learning, author of 20 scientific publications (on the Literacy development issues, interactive learning, problem-based learning etc.), main staff / author of 9 grant projects, author and instructional designer of the first Georgian online program for teachers' professional development. She has participated in various local and international scientific conferences and forums.

    RUSUDAN ASATIANI

 
Rusudan Asatiani was born in Tbilisi, Georgia. From 1997 to 2001 she studied at V. Sarajishvili Tbilisi State Conservatory. From 2006 she studied photojournalism at Georgian Institute of Public Affairs. For several years she worked in various newspapers and private companies as a photographer and designer. Now she is a new President of Georgian Library Association. She has been working at National Parliamentary Library of Georgia since 2009 as a head of Posters and printmaking department. Her main role in National Library is management of digitization processes. She implemented first digital repository in Georgia, based on Dspace platform. As a President of Georgian Library Association she cooperates actively with almost all regional libraries, she is planning and conducting various training programs for them and together with other members of the association and representatives of National Library, assisting them in digitization of their funds and improving professional skills of regional librarians. She lives in Tbilisi with her husband Tornike Asatiani and 2 children. She can be contacted at ruska110 [@] gmail.com
