March 13-16, 2014
With the support of the Events Participation Support Scheme, three translators from the "Prostory" periodical – Nelia Vakhovska, Nataliya Tchermalykh and Vasyl Lozynskyi, and two cultural managers from the International Literature Corporation "Meridian Czernowitz" - Sviatoslav Pomerantsev and Yevheniia Lopata, had the possibility to participate in Leipzig Book Fair, which was held on March 13-16, 2014.

The Leipzig Book Fair is the second largest book fair in the world after the Frankfurt Book Fair. This year it was attended by 2180 publishers from 42 countries of the world. During the literary festival "Leipzig Reads", held simultaneously with the Fair, 3200 events at 410 locations involving 3000 authors took place. According to the event organizers, this year the Leipzig Book Fair and the festival "Leipzig Reads" were visited by a record number of people – more than 237 thousand.

All participants emphasized that they "managed to implement a number of plans and fully achieved the aims of participation in the event".

The participants of the International Literature Corporation "Meridian Czernowitz" mainly concentrated their activity at their stand. There they presented books of contemporary Ukrainian authors, published by their publishing house, and also publications of the studies carried out within the Book Platform project. Managers of "Meridian Czernowitz" had a lot of business meetings with partners of previous and future literary festivals, which they organize for four years in Chernivtsi. In addition, negotiations with German authors concerning joint book projects, which are planned to be implemented till the end of 2014, were held.

The main activity of the participants from the "Prostory" periodical was participating in the discussion "Ukraine in Europe: Vision, Configuration, Identity" within the focus program "Tranzyt – Literature from Poland, Ukraine and Belarus". The discussion concerned the events, which happened in Ukraine in the latest months. During the discussion a special issue of the "Prostory" magazine called "Documenting Maidan" was also presented; Nelia Vakhovska and Nataliya Tchermalykh performed the function of speakers. Vasyl Lozynskyi read two of his poems, translated by Halyna Latsanych particularly for this thematic issue of the magazine. He mentioned: "it was pleasant that along with the conversations about political and social issues, that was the only artistic component of the event". The discussion was a concluding event of the whole "Tranzyt" program, which is why after it participants and visitors, a great number of whom were present, could continue communicating in the informal atmosphere during a modest reception. In addition to the participation in the discussion, the members were involved as interpreters in the Ukrainian literary program, which was presented by NGO "Publishers' Forum" within the "Tranzyt" program for the third time. At the Fair the participants had a number of business meetings with already existing and new German partners – publishing houses, translators, authors, with whom they agreed to maintain relations concerning further cooperation.

The trip of these three participants was not limited to Leipzig. On their way home they also visited Berlin, where presentation of the periodical was held in the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation. It was very popular, and among the audience there were a lot of regular visitors of the salon, that's why the discussion was rather intense.
