Meetings and Opportunities: Armenia at London Book Fair 2014
Arevik Ashkharoyan, Executive Director of Armenian Literature Foundation and Book Platform local project manager, participated at London Book Fair in April 9-11, 2014 as part of the Armenian Pavilion. Ms. Askharoyan had around 30 meetings with international publishers, agents, and
representatives of cultural organizations, to represent the Foundation and present the Book Platform activities.
The studies done within the Book Platform project were of most interest to all the international professionals, because they would help them better understand the book market of Armenia. Another topic of interest to some of them was Editorial Visits, an activity fulfilled in February, 2014. The information was spread widely by the participants of the Editorial Visits and many other publishers were expressing their interest to participate in the next event. Arevik Ashkharoyan informed all the interested parties that ALF is now in the stage of planning the next Editorial Visits and will inform them of the upcoming event. This feedback was very important to hear, as it gives a clear indication of the success of the activity. The positive evaluation of the activities brought a lot of interest towards Armenian book market.
Ms. Askharoyan had a very productive meeting with Daniel Hahn, as a follow up of the "Fair Play and Collaboration" workshop from 2013. This meeting was especially important with a view to discussing the structure and functioning of the British Literary Translators Center. This information will be used to give the start of Armenian Literary Translators' Association. There were also follow up meetings with three of the participants of the Editorial Visits: Silvia Brunelli, Piero Salabe and Laure Pecher, introduced some new important contacts, and gave feedback on the titles they received for a review at Editorial Visits in February.
