  "State Policy in the Book Sector: New Chance for Ukraine" took place in Ukraine

Interactive capacity building event titled «State Policy in the Book Sector: New Chance for Ukraine» took place in Ukraine in the Scientific Library of the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy on June 26, 2014. The event became the final activity of Book Platform in Ukraine and one of the first events after the revolution of dignity, and was devoted to discussions on the pressing issues of the book sector in the country. Different groups of stakeholders participated: publishers and booksellers; writers and literary critics; librarians; educators and scholars; cultural managers and public figures; deputies and officials; representatives of Ukrainian foundations, associations and NGOs; mass media and PR representatives; translators and literary agents; representatives of foreign institutions.   "Creative Writing for Quality Reading" workshop took place in Armenia 

A Workshop on Creative Writing for Quality Reading took place on June 26-28, 2014 within the framework of the Book Platform Project at the Writers' Union in Yerevan, Armenia. The participants of the workshop were 10 young writers, among them not only rather successful and well known writers who have at least one or two books published, but also authors who still have only one or two publications in literary media. The three-day-long workshop had two sessions daily, the morning sessions included presentations of Laure Pecher, editor and literary agent, on the main theoretical aspects of writing a successful quality novel, and the afternoon sessions were held by Viken Berberian, an American writer of Armenian origin, who managed practical exercises in Armenian language and held discussions on the writing pieces by participants.   Public Discussion on Readership in Ukraine

"Tell me what you read and I will tell you who you are", - with these words the Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Oleksandr Sych started the presentation of the results of the study on reading habits and attitudes to reading carried out within the Book Platform project. It took place on June 26, 2014 in the Scientific Library of the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. 135 people attended the presentation. Among them there were the authority representatives, writers, publishers, booksellers, the mass media, librarians, translators, journalists, critics, literary scholars, cultural managers and public figures, educators and scientists.   Promotion of Literature in Translation Internship - Armenia and Georgia

The Amsterdam Residency House for Writers, Translation Grants, Visitors' Program and Amsterdam Translators' House, meetings with Dutch top publishers – that is just part of the experience of the two interns – Irine Tchogoshvili from Georgia and Lianna Aghamyan from Armenia, who spent a 7-day internship at the Dutch Foundation for Literature from June 18 to June 25, 2014, supported by the Book Platform project. During the internship the host organization shared information on the projects they are doing, and organized meetings with other companies and organization working in the field of publishing and book selling.   Promotion of Literature in Translation Internship - Armenia and Georgia

Giorgi Sabanadze (Georgia), Head of Public Relations and Cultural Programs Division at the National Parliamentary Library of Georgia, spent a 7-day internship at the "All of Poland Reads to Kids" Foundation from June 23 to June 29, 2014, supported by the Book Platform project. The intern had the invaluable opportunity to learn more about the experience of the Foundation in supporting the emotional health of children and young people in Poland through educational, organizational and promotional activities, as well as lobbying.
